The Japanese word for "battle team," Sentai has generally come to mean a genre of live-action television shows wherein a group of people use martial arts and giant robots to fight monsters. See SUPER SENTAI.

Japanese for “Task Force” or “Troop.” Refers mainly to the many series made by Toei that feature a group of colorful costumed heroes working together to battle evil. Many of these Sentai shows have been translated into the Power Rangers series in the U.S.
A Sentai TV show is a live action show with costumed heroes and villains. 'Sentai' literally means 'corps' or 'squadron'. These shows involve 'rangers' (the heroes) fighting strange monsters in each episode and their fighting equipment almost always includes a giant robot or at least some kind of special vehicles. The best example of this kind of show is the 'The Mighty Morphing Power Rangers'.

Japanese language word which may be literally translated as "task force" or "regiment". It is perhaps best known as the term used during World War II for an Imperial Japanese Army Air Service unit made up of two or more squadrons. A sentai was equivalent to a group or wing in other air forces.
