Definitions for "Shinjin"
Keywords:  shinran, buddha, faith, shinshu, jodo
(Japanese, Buddhism) Sincere expression of faith. Central value in Shinran's ideal of complete trust in the Amida Buddha.
Shinjin (信心) is a term coined by Shinran Shonin, founder of Jodo Shinshu. It describes the ultimate goal of Jodo Shinshu and is translated as "true entrusting", "one thought-mind" or sometimes incorrectly as "true faith" toward Amitabha Buddha. Jodo Shinshu teaches that one can achieve Enlightenment through entrusting of Amitabha Buddha, so shinjin is sometimes equated with nirvana itself.
