Definitions for "Signup Bonus"
A signup bonus is a cash bonus that an online poker room gives to new players that sign up and make a deposit at the poker room. Typically, the poker room makes the bonus a percentage of the player's first deposit. Practically all bonuses have release requirements. This means the poker room will only award the bonus to the new player once the player has played a certain amount of raked hands. Generally, the amount of raked hands is equal to about ten times the bonus amount.
Some programs will put a sum into your account as soon as you join. This bonus can usually not be redeemed for ads (only one program I am a member of allows this, once you have been a member for 28 days). Some programs that originally had a signup bonus dropped it later. I do not recommend letting the signup bonus influence your decision to join a program.
