Definitions for "Silking"
Coating defect: fine parallel irregularities in a paint film that give the appearance of silk. This defect usually is a special case of floating and flocculation in coating finishes.
A defect in coatings saused by the tendecy of pigment particles in the film to concentrate or settle, as the coating flows away from the edges or holes in the substrate. This is usually caused by a heavy application of a low viscosity coating.
A surface defect which results in parallel flow lines in the paint film.

A now obsolete but once popular way to provide additional support for fragile or torn documents by placing a document between two thin pieces of silk adhered to the document with a thin layer of paste. This process was popular between 1900-1930. In can be reversed by washing the document in water. This releases the silk layers. Residual adhesive is removed from the document by a bath in enzymes.
