Single Stage to Orbit. the capability of a launch vehicle to accomplish a mission from the ground to orbit without staging, or shedding of components during the launch process; such vehicles contain all of the fuels and oxidizer they require in tanks inside their structures, and return to the ground with the tanks intact (the amount of oxidizer required can be reduced through use of air-breathing engines)
