Definitions for "Statutory Authority"
An organisation that is required to exist by law; for example, health authorities and local and county councils.
A public (or semi-government) authority established by legislation, and having the power to make legally enforceable decisions and regulations. Examples includes bodies responsible for electricity generation, gas, water supply, etc.
Statutory authorities are each established under specific legislation which defines the purpose for which they are established and the general functions for which they are responsible.
