Vocal genre, often sung within a khyal performance

A rhythm oriented vocal genre using vocables, solfege syllables or drum syllables as text performed in a medium or fast tempo.

A composition using certain syllables which normally ends a presentation of a full raga performance and is sung in madya (medium) or drut (fast) laya (speed). Examples of such syllables may be taken from Indian drums like Ta, Di, Re, Na, Da, Ni, Dhim, Nom and Tom.

Tarana is a type of composition in Indian classical vocal music in which meaningless syllables are used in a medium-paced (madhyalay) or fast (drut lay) rendition. It was invented by Amir Khusro and now is common all over India.
