Toxic Equivalent Quantity. The quantity of each PCDD/PCDF emitted multiplied by its TEF. In this manner, devices that emit different relative quantities of the different PCDD/PCDF compounds can be compared to a standard limit.
Toxic Equivalents
(toxic equivalency): a calculated figure used to estimate the overall toxicity of multiple types (congeners) of dioxin-like chemicals at once. There are two primary TEQ systems, I-TEQ (International) and WHO, which yield slightly different results.
