John Carpenter's The Thing is a 1982 science fiction film directed by John Carpenter. Ostensibly a remake of the 1951 Howard Hawks film The Thing from Another World, Carpenter's film is actually more faithful to the novella that serves as both films' source material, "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell, Jr..

The Thing follows the adventures of Captain Blake who is sent to Antarctica by the US Military to investigate the events of John Carpenter's 1982 film The Thing.

"The Thing" is a hit novelty song by Charles Randolph Grean which received much airplay in 1950.
