Definitions for "Transparent bridging"
A bridging process whose presence and operation are not apparent to network hosts. When transparent bridges are activated, they learn the network's topology by analyzing the source addresses of incoming frames from all attached networks.
A type of bridging mechanism that is invisible to each end station.
So named because the intelligence necessary to make relaying decisions exists in the bridge itself and is thus transparent to the communicating workstations. It involves frame forwarding, learning workstation addresses and ensuring no topology loops exist (in conjunction with the Spanning-Tree algorithm).
