On highways, a measurement of the total miles traveled by all vehicles in the area for a specified time period. It is calculated by the number of vehicles multiplied by the miles traveled in a given area or on a given highway during the time period. One car traveling one mile represents 1 unit of VMT.
A measure of the extent of motor vehicle operation; the total number of vehicle miles traveled within a specific geographic area over a given period of time.
The miles traveled by motor vehicles over a specified length of time (e.g., daily, monthly, or yearly) or over a specified road or transportation corridor. (top) Visibility: The distance that atmospheric conditions allow a person to see at a given time and location. Visibility reduction from air pollution is often due to the presence of sulfur and nitrogen oxides, as well as particulate matter.
The number of miles traveled nationally by vehicles for a period of 1 year. VMT is either calculated using two odometer readings or, for vehicles with less than two odometer readings, imputed using a regression estimate.
