Volterra is a town in the Tuscany region, Italy. The town has a history which dates back to the Etruscan Period. This town was a Neolithic settlement and an important Etruscan center with an original civilization; it became a municipium in the Roman Age.

Volterra is a lunar crater that is located in the northern latitudes on the far side of the Moon. To the northeast is Olivier crater, and to the south-southwest lies Von Békésy crater. This is an eroded crater formation, particularly along the western side where the rim is more uneven.
