A component of Extensible Stylesheet Language (see XSL), XSLT controls views of Extensible Markup Language (XML) documents and the ordering of XML elements. It is used to create new content structures from existing structures or subsets, based on interest, access privileges or security, and it transforms XML structure to Hypertext Markup Language. Specifications for the language are defined in the World Wide Web Consortium's XSLT Recommendation, published in November 1999.
XSL Stylesheet Language Transformation. The process of applying an XSL stylesheet to a document to transform the content to another format. This is accomplished using an XSLT engine, or transformation engine. Transformation engines have been implemented in many languages, including Java. SCT uses an open source transformation engine developed by the Apache program, called Xalon. If you are reading this glossary as an HTML page, you are reading the output of an XSL Transformation.
XSL ransformations are used to transform one type of XML into another. It is a component of XSL that can be (and often is) used independently.
Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT) is a programming language used as part of XSL style sheets. The main function of XSLT is to transform an XML document into a different structure, such as XHTML or plain HTML.
XSLT style sheet is an XSL document used to transform XML to another XML document or to another text format e.g. HTML, WML or RTF.
