Any local indigenous plant community containing throughout its growth the complement of native species and habitats normally associated with that vegetation type or having the potential to develop these characteristics. It includes vegetation with these characteristics that has been regenerated with human assistance following disturbance. It excludes plantations and vegetation that has been established for commercial purposes.

Refers to plants that have always grown in an area as opposed to introduced by man. The animals in our streams use specific tree leaves for food and building material and thrive best when those species are present.

Stands of blocks of naturally occurring plant communities. These include a range of vegetation associations such as woodlands, grasslands, forests, wetlands, mangroves etc. Scattered native trees and shrubs in cleared paddocks or urban areas are more usually considered separately as scattered or isolated plants.
