person of low caste, usually engaged in leather work.

Member of a 'scheduled class' untouchable or outcaste whose occupation has to do with tanning leather.

Chamar ( from the Sanskrit Charmakara) is a prominent occupational Dalit caste in India. Also assocaited with the Madiga in South India.
