PROGRAM EXECUTIVE OFFICER. A military or civilian official who has primary responsibility for directing several acquisition category I programs and for assigned acquisition category II, III, and IV programs. A PEO has no other command or staff responsibilities within the component, and only reports to and receives guidance and direction from the DoD Component Acquisition Executive.
