Someone who owns a truck, but who leases the motor vehicle with driver to a motor carrier. The carrier generally is responsible for some or all of the legal and business requirements for the vehicle. In the IRP, a motor vehicle may be registered by either the motor carrier or the owner-operator.
Driver who owns and operates his own truck who may lease vehicle and driver to another carrier.
Trucker who owns and operates his own truck(s).
Truckers who own and drive they own rigs.
An owner-operator is a type of business owner, who typically works and runs their own business. An owner-operator will usually be responsible for day-to-day operations, such as inventory, finances, labor control, etc. Owner-operators will usually work several hours, and be present at the location of the business in some form, most of the day.
