To join, as the electrodes of a battery or dynamo or any two points of a circuit, by a conductor of low resistance.
Short-circuit occurs when a metallic wrie or a metallic object is placed between the contacts of a battery. This causes electricity to flow without any resistance. Due to the reduced resistance a large amount of electricity flows producing a lot of heat. This can lead to a fire hazard.
An abnormal path of little or no resistance across the terminals of a circuit, resulting in an excessive flow of current.

A defect in a winding which causes part of the normal electrical circuit to be bypassed. This frequently results in reducing the resistance of impedance to such an extent as to cause overheating of the winding, and subsequent burnout.
