One who watches; one who sits up or continues; a diligent observer; specifically, one who attends upon the sick during the night.
The . An aspect (label)of experience that arises in meditation (such as shamatha), and in the adept during moments of true clarity. (We truly have no way of knowing which of these states we are presently inhabiting.) The watcher manifests or operates as an informer, who sees and perceives and often comments on whatever arises in the moment. To the degree that we are currently ego fixated it makes things presentable to our present state of being. It is constantly translating and editing. If we notice duality present in our momentary experience, than we know it is the watcher that is perceiving. The anecdote is to step back and simply observe the activity of the watcher. This is also the antidote! As with most aspects of mind, the unaware often see aspects, such as watcher, as pollutants, rather than as necessary aspects of understanding. lc
a close observer; someone who looks at something (such as an exhibition of some kind); "the spectators applauded the performance"; "television viewers"; "sky watchers discovered a new star"
a person who keeps a devotional vigil by a sick bed or by a dead body
the pure Soul awareness that observes everything with Divine Detachment. The Soul, quite literally, watches the "goings on" of the personal ego-self. The Watcher does not judge any of the thoughts, feelings, actions, or words of the personal ego-self. Rather the Soul, as Watcher, sees the acting out of the personal ego-self as a character "that struts and frets it's hour upon the stage." The Watcher asks us to practice Divine Detachment, Divine Love, Divine Wisdom, and Divine Consciousness.
