A type of T cell that activates other immune cells, including B cells and cytotoxic T cells.
also known as CD4 T-cells or helper CD4 T-cells. These are cells that can help B cells make antibody in response to challenge. The most efficient helper cells are also known as Th2, cells that make the cytokines IL-4 and IL-5. Some experts refer to all CD4 cells as helper cells, regardless of function. Function determination requires cellular assays that show that some CD4 T cells kill the cells they interact with, and therefore not all CD4 cells are helper cells.
