A mechanical feature present on all blind threaded inserts at the opposite end of the counterbore from the threads. The function of the head is to prevent the insert from completely entering the mounting hole in the panel. After the bulb is formed, the insert is restrained from axial motion relative to the panel by the head in one direction and by the bulb in the opposite direction. Heads come in various styles including flat, low profile and countersunk.
