Work Centers are the driving force in a SIMUL8 simulation. They have a Pull and Push element, meaning they will attempt to pull work in from any source, and after processing it they will push it to the next valid destination. Work Centers have a Processing Time, derived form a distribution, and may have rules used to control where work items are pulled form or pushed to

a collection of one or more machines with similar capabilities

a set of one or more machines having similar capabilities on which a particular operation can be completed

a specific production facility consisting of one or more persons or machines that can be considered a single unit for planning and work assignment

A group of similar machines. Work centers may be used for scheduling and to define costs and/or cost centers. Work centers can also be grouped into higher level departments.

A specific production area, consisting of one or more people and/or machines with similar capabilities, that can be considered as one unit for purposes of capacity requirements planning and detailed scheduling. Syn: load center.
