In RPG s, a party is a group of characters ( NPC s or other human players) who assist the player for the duration of the game. Some games include the ability for the player to add and remove party members at will. In MMORPG s, parties are usually informal groups of people working together for a simple goal (such as slaying a tough monster or completing a quest). The more permanent method of grouping in MMORPG s is usually called a guild.

People or organizations involved in an interaction. If parties are groups/organizations the powerful members of such groups must have common interests in relation to the issues involved which the group as a whole can be pressured or induced to pursue. In general, the internal decision processes through which a party decides which options to adopt or reject and which positions to take, etc., are themselves a matter of dramatic interactions and confrontations between sub-parties with differing interests.
