Two definitions possible: Refers to a scene in BDSM. Could be a specialized fetish play (for instance, could be a rope play, or wax play)

Used in the alt-sex and especially BDSM communities to denote sexual activity, and often to mean BDSM activity. “We’re going to a play party (i.e., a sex party) on Saturday”; “I played (i.e., did a scene) with him the other night.

For a young woman to dream that she attends a play, foretells that she will be courted by a genial friend, and will marry to further her prospects and pleasure seeking. If there is trouble in getting to and from the play, or discordant and hideous scenes, she will be confronted with many displeasing surprises. See Theater.

Taking part of a SM scene or scene activity.

"Play" is the term given to taking part in a BDSM scene. It is a deliberate use of the word's ambiguous meaning - suggesting both a Play in the literary sense (taking in the roleplay aspect) and Play in the child-like sense (taking in the experimentation, gleefullness and wonder aspects). Often in BDSM clubs, "Shall we play?" is the equivalent to the vanilla "Shall we dance?".
