( Fonsi) - the determination that a proposed action will not adversely impact the environment.

A FONSI is the formal finding that the project will not have significant impact based on the environmental assessment.

A document prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, supported by an environmental assessment, that briefly presents why a Federal action will have no significant effect on the human environment and for which an environmental impact statement, therefore, will not be prepared (40 CFR 1508.13).

An administrative determination by the Federal Highway Administration based upon studies providing data to support that a project will have no significant impact on the environment or the community.

A document written when research and reconnaissance of a particular area reveal no significant impact to the natural, cultural, aesthetic, or economic environment.
