A narration is referred to as “mutawatir” if it has an unbroken chain of narration back to the Prophet (saws), with such a large number of narrators at each stage that is impossible that they could have colluded to fabricate it. As such, mutawatir narrations have the highest level of authenticity. The Qur’an has been transmitted in mutawatir form as have many ahadeeth. The later subdivides into those mutawatir in wording or meaning.
