a definite piece of work
Business; employment; undertaking; labor.
the lowest level of detail in a work plan, tasks are the detail steps necessary to complete an activity.
A generic term for work that is not included in the work breakdown structure, but potentially could be a further decomposition of work by the individuals responsible for that work. It is also the lowest level of effort on a project.
A running program--similar to a process on UNIX systems. A task is scheduled by the operating system and provides the framework in which threads run. The operating system recognizes tasks for managing memory protection, hardware resource limits, and accounting. A task consists of one or more teams.
An executable item (a TME resource) that can be run on any managed node transparently; this can be a shell script, a Perl script, a compiled program or any other kind of valid executable.
A Mach abstraction consisting of a virtual address space and a port name space. A task itself performs no computation; rather, it is the context in which threads run. See also "process"; "thread".
A selection in the portfolio of the Tivoli Privacy Manager console. Which tasks are displayed is controlled by the authorization role of the user logged into the console.
Category you are to perform within I-DEAS, such as Master Modeler, Master Assembly, or Drafting Setup.
a specific piece of work required to be done as a duty or for a specific fee; "estimates of the city's loss on that job ranged as high as a million dollars"; "the job of repairing the engine took several hours"; "the endless task of classifying the samples"; "the farmer's morning chores"
a behavior performed by a ModSAF entity or unit on the battlefield
a behavior performed by an individual on the battlefield
Generically, an activity or set of activities that might be defined as part of a process. When used within a phrase such as 'Standard Operational Task' it defines a well documented, controlled, proceduralised, and usually low risk, activity. The procedure controlling the manner in which the task is carried out would be subject to formal Change Control. Technical Observation Post A prearranged meeting of specialist technical support staff from within the IT support organisation brought together to focus on specific aspects of IT availability.
The smallest indivisible part of an activity that is needed to track a project, such that it becomes impractical, or of no benefit, to break down the activity any further.
A task identifies an activity for which a user wants to separately budget or monitor costs. Tasks allow a user the ability to further define a project into separate functions for which the user can separately budget and monitor expenditures. A user has the ability to define top-level task definitions for all project types.
In scheduling, the smallest unit of activity that G2 performs.
An item associated with a web in FrontPage, representing an action you need to perform to complete or maintain the web. Some tasks are automatically generated by wizards in FrontPage. You can also add your own tasks. Tasks are displayed in Tasks view.
a defined goal or action
a grouping of actions that fail or succeed as a group
an action a user must do within the framework of a project
a basic unit of computation in PVM, a Unix process for instance
a conversation that is significant in terms of a long-running business process, and has the potential to trigger a business process state transition when it is successfully completed
a process currently running on the system
a program used to provide information about theprocesses and programs running on a computer, as well as the general
Marking a Task Complete
A subset of steps performed for an individual process. For example, a task would be adding-on purchased products and reactive patches to your operating system. Tasks can be divided into activities depending upon the task and the section. A complete task is all of the steps required to perform that task.
assign a task to; "I tasked him with looking after the children"
an item to be completed by a specified date and time
An Ada construct that may operate in parallel with other tasks.
This refers to contributions by collaborators to keep the BABAR detector running effectively. As defined in the BABAR Collaboration Services Policy: "It is expected that all institutions in the collaboration contribute to the ongoing operation of the experiment. These contributions include detector systems and core software operations and maintenance; coordination and management tasks; physics tools development and infrastructure support; Monte Carlo production; and a host of other jobs both in the operation of the detector and computing Reference Link (http://www.slac.stanford.edu/BFROOT/www/Organization/Administration/CommonTasks17.pdf)
An atomic client operation, used to generate load on a server.
an operation that manipulates the contents of a file
another name for a process
a basic process component
a collection of processes that represents a workload component
a new process collective that groups related work within a workload (so it could be a workload component, like a batch submission)
an activity with a concrete, non-linguistic, realistic goal which requires language to reach that goal
a particular instance of a procedure that achieves a goal
a set of physical and cognitive procedures that when combined serve to achieve a particular goal
In the general sense, a task is any item displayed in the Outline, To Do List, or Balance sections of Life Balance. In the specific sense, a task that does not contain any subtasks, displayed with a round bullet in the Outline. Contrast this with the terms goal and project, which refer to higher-level tasks with children.
collection of programming commands. A task performs the specified output (e.g. turn motors on) until the specified condition is met (e.g. for 5 seconds)

a project that is the responsibility of a single person
a single item that you need to do, often by a specific time
An OpenSTA Test is comprised of one or more Task Groups which in turn are composed of Tasks. The Scripts and Collectors included in Task Groups are known as Tasks. Script-based Task Groups can contain one or multiple Tasks. Tasks within a Script-based Task Group can be managed by adjusting the Task Settings which control the number of Script iterations and the delay between iterations when a Test is run. Collector-based Task Groups contain a single Collector Task.
a personal "to-do" item that you want to track but that you don't schedule in your agenda like a meeting
a set of specifications that tells FolderClone what files/folders you want to be copied, where you want them copied, and how often you want this done
a specific chore you want TealAgent to perform and consists of a set of settings for a single template
A Task is a specific activity that needs to be completed. You can enter a Task directly into your Agenda or linked to a Meeting. Tasks can have a start /due date, a start/due time, as well as a Priority and Access Level. Use Tasks to keep track of any work you have to do.
