The 1920 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the VII Olympiad, were held in 1920 in Antwerp, Belgium. The city was chosen in April 1919 to memorialize Belgium for its suffering in World War I, beating out Amsterdam and Lyon for the right to hold the games. The 1916 Olympics were scheduled to be held in Berlin but were canceled due to the fighting in World War I.
