Definitions for "1st Bury St Edmunds"
Bury St Edmunds (Mayors Own) is the oldest surviving registered Scout Group in England. The Scout Troop registered on 5 February 1908, just a few weeks after registration began. Registration papers show that the Scout Troop registered as Bury St Edmunds Scout Troop, but in 1911 the Mayor of Bury St Edmunds, John Ridley Hooper, sponsored the Troop and the troop then became known as 1st Bury St Edmund (Mayors Own).
