Abbott Lawrence Lowell (January 1, 1856–January 6, 1943) was a U.S. educator, historian, and controversial President of Harvard University (1909–33). He was born to Augustus Lowell and his wife Katherine Bigelow Lowell at the family's 10-acre estate in Brookline, MA. The Lowells, a prominent Boston family, affectionately named this estate Sevenels for the fact that there were 7 members in their family.
