Abigail May Alcott (October 8, 1800-November 25, 1877) (or Abigail May the third) was the wife of Bronson Alcott and mother of Louisa May Alcott, the author of Little Women. She was the first paid social worker in the state of Massachusetts, and was the model for the character of Marmee in the book Little Women. She was also a abolitionist and women's rights activist.
