Also called an "essence," this is the pure base material that is obtained by extracting it from a plant's solids. These solids (like leaves or flowers) contain waxes and insoluble materials (like fiber) that are unusable in perfumery. To extract the absolute, the solid material is washed in alcohol, frozen, then filtered. When the alcohol evaporates, the remaining product (either a liquid or solid) is the plant's absolute.
