The Alqueva is an area in the Alentejo region in Portugal, where a huge project in the Guadiana river intended to create a complex infrastructure is being being constructed. The infrastructure includes a dam for hydroelectric power production and irrigation systems to a large arable land area, as well as the formation of an extensive reservoir, forming a lake where several tourist ventures are presently being built.
