Alternanthera is a genus of about 80 herbaceous plants from the Amaranth family (Amaranthaceae). A few are aquatic plants.

There are only a few aquatic plants of species Alternanthera suitable for aquarium use. They are considered difficult to grow and maintain, because they are sensitive to certain parameters of light, water, and fertilizers.
