The Order of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel -- Carmelite Order, sometimes simply Mount Carmel by synechdoche, or in Latin Ordo fratrum Beatæ Virginis Mariæ de monte Carmelo -- is the name of an enclosed Catholic order founded in the 12th century by a group of Europeans lead by a man commonly called Saint Bertold (d. after 1185) on Mount Carmel, Israel, whence the order receives its name.
