An order that includes the crocodiles, alligators, caimans, and gavials. They are large, aquatic, carnivorous, tropical reptiles. Their snout is long with strong teeth, their skin is armoured, and they have short powerful limbs and a flattened tail. They are closely related to the dinosaurs.

All living crocodiles, alligators, caimans and gharials are classified into the order Crocodilia, and are referred to as crocodilians.
