Definitions for "Debarking"
Kuorinta Barkning Removing bark from pulpwood prior to processing.
Debarking, or devocalization, is a controversial surgical procedure in dogs that many believe permanently stops a dog from barking by 'cutting its vocal cords' or removing laryngeal tissue. This perception is not entirely accurate because it merely reduces the volume and pitch of a dog's bark making it sound more as if the dog is hoarse or whispering. There have been no demonstrated psychological impacts on the dog.
