Definitions for "Golgi"
Italian histologist noted for work on the structure of the nervous system and for his discovery of Golgi bodies (1844-1926)
(GOLE-jee) Also called the Golgi apparatus or Golgi complex; an organelle composed of membranous sacs in which many newly made proteins mature and become functional.
The Golgi apparatus is a collection of vesicles and folded membranes in a cell, usually connected to the endoplasmic reticulum. It stores and later transports the proteins manufactured in the endoplasmic reticulum. Golgi cells are types of neurons (nerve cells) within the central nervous system.
Golgi is a tiny lunar impact crater located in the Oceanus Procellarum, over 150 kilometers to the north of Schiaparelli crater. It is a circular, cup-shaped impact formation with an interior albedo that is higher than the surrounding dark lunar mare. This crater was previously designated 'Schiaparelli D' before being given a name by the IAU.
