Hippoboscidae, or louse flies (superfamily Hippoboscoidea), are obligate parasites of mammals and birds. There are winged and wingless species in this family. The sheep ked, Melophagus ovinus (Linnaeus), is a wingless, reddish-brown fly that parasitizes sheep.
