Definitions for "Latifolia"
The Smooth-leaved Elm U. minor subsp. minor cultivar Latifolia was described in the Audibert (Tonelle, France) Catalogue of 1817, page 23, as having broader leaves than the species which expand very early in the spring. The tree is reputed to have originated circa 1750 in or around Malines (: Mechelen), and widely planted throughout Belgium; considered "possibly the same as Belgica (Belgian Elm)" by Green (1964).
