Definitions for "Makizushi"
General term for sushi that is rolled, with the ingredients in the center surrounded by rice and dried seaweed ( nori). “Futomaki” (literally “fat roll”) and “hosomaki” (“thin roll”) are also common terms found on restaurant menus. California rolls are an example of “uramaki,” where the sushi rice and nori are inverted and the rice is facing outwards.
