Definitions for "Pingback"
added by CarThik Pingback lets you notify the author of a blog that you have linked to his or her article. If the author's blog is pingback-enabled, then he gets a notification in the form of a pingback that you linked to his article. See also Track Back. Pingback and trackback helps blogs to be more interconnected. Think of them as the equivalents of acknowledgements and references at the end of an academic paper, or a chapter in a textbook.
A Pingback is one of three types of Linkbacks methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking to, or referring to their articles. Some weblog software, such as Word Press and Community Server, support automatic pingbacks where all the links in a published article can be pinged when the article is published.
