Definitions for "PROSPHORA"
The Loves of Holy Bread that are prepared for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy. They are of two layers with a seal upon the upper layer. In the Russian tradition we use five loaves.
The prayerfully made yeast bread from which a special portion (the "Lamb") is taken to be consecrated in the Divine Liturgy to be the Body of Christ. Other portions signify the Virgin Mary, certain orders of saints and martyrs, and the living and the dead who are to be remembered before God.
