Definitions for "Rosiglitazone"
A drug taken to help reduce the amount of sugar in the blood. Rosiglitazone helps make insulin more effective and improves regulation of blood sugar. It belongs to the family of drugs called thiazolidinediones.
Rosiglitazone is an anti-diabetic drug from the thiazolidinedione class. It is being marketed as Avandia® by the pharmaceutical company Glaxo Smith Kline, both as a standalone preparation and in combination with metformin (Avandamet®). Another combination drug approved by the FDA is Avandaryl® (with glimepiride).
