Persian dynasty reigning from 224 AD to 651 AD over an empire that stretched from Mesopotamia to the River Indus. It was a power with which the Romans of the late Empire, and later the Byzantines, clashed. The dynasty collapsed before the expansion of the Arab Islamic forces; its cultural traditions were largely taken over by the Abbasids.
