Japanese for boy. Shonen manga are often more adventure related, with the exception of 'Shonen ai' - boys' love - manga.

Literally "young boy." Used to describe manga aimed at males up to about age 16, and usually centered around action, sports, or romance (with a young male protagonist). Ranma ½ and Video Girl Ai are examples of mainstream shônen manga.

Young boy. Also used as a label for stories intended for a young male audience.
