Ujjain (Hindi:उजà¥à¤œà¥ˆà¤¨) (also known as Ujain, Ujjayini, Avanti) is an ancient city of central India, in the Malwa region of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, on the eastern bank of the Kshipra River. It is the administrative centre of Ujjain District and Ujjain Division. In ancient times the city was called Ujjayini.
