Whoopi was a short-lived TV sitcom starring Whoopi Goldberg as Mavis Rae, a member of the former one-hit wonder group The Ebony Blackbirds. The series revolved around the events and people at her hotel, the Lamont Hotel in New York City. The show was critically reviled; one writer called it "a free sample of Hell."
