A method of shipping an orchid with its roots unpotted and bare of potting medium.
Usually referring to decidious shrubs and trees, and some other perennials, with all the soil removed from their roots that are sold at nurseries.
Bare root plants are those shipped to the consumer without having been planted in soil, rendering them effectively dormant. Plants may be transported bare rooted for health or quarantine reasons.
