A drug used to treat the early symptoms of Parkinson's. The drug works by increasing the amount of dopamine available for use by brain cells (a dopamine agonist). This is an older drug with many side effects that has been largely replaced with newer drugs.
ergot alkaloid and a potent dopamine receptor agonist that inhibits prolactin secretion and reduces plasma prolactin levels in patients with hyperprolactinemia, pituitary prolactinoma and Parkinson's disease.
